Welcome to St. Peter the Fisherman, a community established in the year 2000 as a mission of St. Paul in New Bern. The ground where the church stands was blessed in 2004 by Bishop Joseph Gossman and after generous benefactors and skilled parishioners helped build this current worship and gathering space, the same bishop celebrated the mass of dedication on February 15, 2005. It is a short history, but one that is still alive and fresh in the hearts of many who still worship in this place!Nearly 20 years later, St. Peter the Fisherman continues to be a tight-knit community with a heart for fellowship and serving those in need. It is a community that seeks to heed the call of the same Lord, who once called St. Peter to follow him and become a fisher of men (see Matt 4:18-20).Whether you have a nice and tidy past or carry just a bit more baggage than you’d like, whether you know the Catechism inside and out or barely know what the Catechism is, come and know the Lord and his Church. Yes, in the words of our patron, “come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Pet 2:4-5). As you follow him, come to know this: “you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Pet 2:9).Come to worship the Lord, to be and share the Good News, and serve those in need! In Christ Jesus, Fr. Steven Costello, Parochial Administrator
